Obituary for Pauline Mae McGee

Pauline McGee, 104 and 11 months, passed to her heavenly rest January 20, 2023 in Spearman, Texas. Graveside services will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis, Oklahoma with Nathan McGee officiating. Viewing will be Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 22, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Spearman, Texas.

Pauline was born February 20, 1918 in Oakwood, OK to James Ray and Mary Sions Ray. Pauline’s father died at the age of 21 when she and her sister were very young. Pauline met the love of her life, Blant McGee, while both were attending Southwestern State Teachers College in Weatherford, OK where they earned their Bachelor of Arts degrees in Education. Blant and Pauline were married June 6, 1936 in Hollis, OK. They began their teaching careers in Hollis where Pauline taught 5th and 6th grades, and Blant taught industrial arts, chemistry and physics. They were blessed with two children, Maralin and Gary, who were not only their children but also students in their classes. During the summer, the family enjoyed trips to Gunnison, CO where Blant taught industrial arts at Western State College while he and Pauline earned their Master of Arts degrees in Education. Time off was spent with the family and fly fishing.

In 1965, Blant and Pauline made the decision to move to Spearman, TX to join other family members teaching there. They rented an apartment for one year, keeping their home in Hollis, to see if they would enjoy the change. At the end of that year, they made Spearman their permanent home. They both taught at Spearman Jr. High School in classrooms next door to each other. Blant taught math, and Pauline taught English. Pauline retired in May 1983 with 45 years of combined service in Oklahoma and Texas; however, she substituted to the age of 85 and graded the senior English papers well beyond that. She loved her students and many still remember her fondly as one of their favorite teachers.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Blant McGee; father, James Ray; step-father, Glenn Davis; mother, Mary Jane Davis; and sister, Maxine Thompson.

Those left to share her story with future generations include her daughter and son-in-law Maralin and Mac Moore of Phoenix, Arizona; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Kimi McGee of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren Robert and Judy Moore of Cumberland, Maine; Sandi and Steve Moster of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Bailey and Natalie McGee of Omak, Washington; great-grandchildren Justin and A.C. Moore of Jackson Springs, North Carolina; Alex Moore of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Miranda Moore of Cumberland Center, Maine; and Madalin Moster of Scottsdale, Arizona.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Marsha Jarrell, administrator, and the entire staff of the Hansford Manor; Dr. Mark Garnett; and Hansford Hospice for the loving care shown to our Mother and Grandmother through the years.
