Obituary for Patsy Joy Roberts
Patsy Joy Roberts, 78, of Altus, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 in Altus. Services have been scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Patsy was born April 16, 1934, the third child of Tina (Thorne) and Pat Lowry in McNary, Arizona. She grew up in Arizona and Oregon. At the age of 17 she met James Roberts and they were married while James was in the US Navy. They made their first home in Long Beach, California where their first daughter, Vicki Marie was born. They were transferred to Honolulu, Hawaii where their second daughter, Debrah Gale was born. After that they were transferred to Fallon, Nevada, back to Honolulu and then to San Diego, California.
After Jim's retirement from the Navy in 1968, they moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon. In 1990, Patsy and Jim sold their home and became full-time RVer's. They wintered in Parker, Arizona and spent their summers traveling, mostly between Oklahoma and Washington to spend time with their daughters, and also to Alaska. Their routes varied each year, taking them to different sites. In 2005, they gave up their traveling and settled in Altus, Oklahoma. Patsy spent the last 6 years of her life going places with her daughter and son-in-law, taking trips to Branson, Missouri, Red River, New Mexico, and a cruise to Hawaii, until her health prevented it.
Patsy loved life, traveling, and especially shopping. Wherever she went she had to visit the local shops. Nothing made her happier than to spend a full day going to her favorite stores in Lawton or Oklahoma City, eating out and then shopping some more. She loved nice clothes, jewelry, and dressing up. She also loved animals, the outdoors and being with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband James of the home; two daughters, Vicki Melton and husband Larry of Altus, Oklahoma and Debrah Purser and husband Ralph of Kingston, Washington; four grandchildren, Darcy Melton of Dallas, Texas, Douglas Melton, USAF currently in route to Sprangdahlem AFB, Germany, Christina (Purser) White and husband Anthony of Temecula, California and Debby Purser of Kingston, Washington; and five grandchildren. Patsy is also survived by one brother Ray Lowry of Texas.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Billie Rae Scott.
