Patsy Jo Hunt, age 83, of Mangum, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 18, 2017, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center, in Mangum.
Patsy was born in Duke, Oklahoma on January 26, 1933, to Jasper Craten and Ola Marie (Crabtree) Barry. After attending Centralvue School, she later married Jackie Gene Ball and shortly thereafter they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she was involved in many civic and philanthropic activities. After her divorce in 1972, she married Jerry Don Hunt in 1976 and moved to the Texas Panhandle and completed her LVN training, graduating in 1978. Patsy then worked in several hospitals and as a home healthcare nurse, being one of a few who would make house calls in rural areas. In the late 1980s she moved to Mangum to care for her mother. Patsy then lived in Mangum until her death. Patsy was also a very active member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she held District, State and National positions, a volunteer for Disabled American Veterans programs, a trustee on the Old Greer County Museum board, a board member of the SOCAG meal site, an active member and former president of the Genealogical Society, as well as many other activities. In October 2016, Patsy was awarded the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award and cited by the State of Oklahoma for her lifetime of volunteerism.
Preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Vickie Lynn Ball and one son, Joe Dale Ball, she is survived by three daughters, Beverly Jean Otero and husband Martin of Oklahoma City, Dolores Kay Rose of Houston, Texas and Donna Dianne Ball of Katy, Texas; ten grandchildren, Brent Ball and wife Catherine of Kansas City, Missouri, Stephanie Snodgrass and husband Brian of Euless, Texas, Lourdes Segovia and husband Ariel of Oklahoma City, Joanna Otero of Seattle, Washington, Martin Damian Otero of Oklahoma City, Diana Schilling and husband George of Houston, Texas, Jessica Rose of Houston, Texas, Kristina Finley of San Antonio, Texas, Tammie Farris of San Antonio, Texas and Emma Eichman of San Antonio, Texas; seventeen great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Ramona Ball of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Janice Thompson and husband Gary of Luttrell, Tennessee, Linda Couch and husband Don of New Braunsfel, Texas and Deborah Smith and husband Jack of Ft. Myers, Florida; two brothers, Doyne Barry and wife Glenda of Paris, Texas and Darrell Barry of Chickasha, Oklahoma, along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Patsy Hunt will be at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, January 21, 2017, with Reverend Arokiasamy Andarias officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home, in Mangum, on Friday evening, January 20, 2017, from 4 until 5 p.m.
