Opal Mildred Peeler, age 95, of Reed, passed away Friday afternoon, March 12, 2010, at Baptist Medical Center, in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Peeler was born on October 13, 1914, near Vinson, Oklahoma, to James Smith and Julia Jane (Harden) Knight. She attended Sulphur School, until it closed, then transferred to Vinson where she graduated in 1933. On November 25, 1933, she married Robert Peeler and they established their home near the Reed Community. A homemaker all of her life, she helped Robert with the farming and enjoyed gardening, cooking and attending garage sales in her spare time. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and friends and attending the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1990; two sisters, Essie Roper and Ruby Penley; six brothers, Ervin Knight, Eldon Knight, Haskell Knight, Elmer Knight, Melvin Knight and Billie Knight, one son, Jerry Peeler in 2004 and a son and daughter at birth. She is survived by two children, Beth Pence of Reed and Tom Peeler and friend Karen Read of Reed; eight grandchildren, Randal Pence of Reed, Greg Pence and wife Marcheta of Reed, Robin Zachary and husband Scout of Reed, Nick Peeler of Mangum, Robert Peeler of Reed, Doni Kaufhold and husband Shawn of Iowa Park, Texas, Brent Peeler and wife Amy of Mangum and Daniel Peeler of Burkburnett, Texas; ten great grandchildren, Brooke Hitch and husband Chris, Katie Pence, Dustie Pence, Ty Cobb Zachary, Zarah Zachary, Hadley Zachary, Mason Kaufhold, Bryce Peeler, Kayla Peeler and Jacob Peeler; two sister-in-laws, Gerri Knight and Corinn Knight along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services for Opal Peeler will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Reed Cemetery with Shawn Laughlin officiating. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
