Obituary for Oletha Anderson Hinton
Oletha Anderson Hinton, age 95, died Friday May 19, 1995 at Sherman, Texas. She was born July 30, 1899 in Mt. Sterling, Iowa, to John Haney and Elizabeth Davidson Anderson. As a child, she moved with her parents to Oklahoma Territory where the family lived in Snyder. She attended Snyder Public Schools where her father served as Superintendent.
She graduated from Snyder High School in 1917 as an honor student. She attended Oklahoma College fro Women (Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts) in Chickasha, Oklahoma. After college, she returned to Snyder to teach at Snyder High School. She married Walter Howard Hinton June 25, 1922. They established a home in Altus where she taught at Washington Elementary and Altus Junior High. They later moved to Lampasas, Texas, and then returned to Altus where she continued to live until failing health caused her to move to Sherman, Texas, near her daughter, Betty Hinton Julien.
Oletha was interested in genealogy and did research on her own lineage and became a researcher and genealogist to help others trace their heritage. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and many foreign countries. She was a member of the Anne Lee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law; Betty and John Julien of Howe, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law; Robert Howard and Donna Hinton of Altus. Two grandchildren; Holly Lee Graves of Clinton, Oklahoma and Howard Milbum Hinton of Stillwater, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother; William Bryan Anderson of Topeka, Kansas; A sister; Theresa Marie Krueger of Houston, Texas. Walter Hinton died February 11, 1990.
