Obituary for Nota Lee Brunson
BRUNSON
Nota Lee (McCain) Brunson, age 92, of Mangum, passed away late Thursday evening, May 30, 2013, at her residence, in Mangum.
Mrs. Brunson was born in Vinson, Oklahoma, on September 12, 1920, to William Ruben and Mary Modena (Myers) McCain. After graduating from Vinson High School, in 1940, she moved to Odessa, Texas to work. Later, Nota Lee played pro basketball with the All American Redheads out of Missouri for two years. In 1941 Nota Lee moved to the West Coast and worked for General Cable Corporation, making cable for the war efforts. In 1943 Fred and Nota Lee were introduced and shortly thereafter, moved to San Angelo, where they were married in April of 1943. On April 13, 1945 their daughter Fredda Celane was born. While on an assignment in the Philippines, Fred was injured and left the service. They later lived in Midland and Big Springs, Texas. In 1964 they moved to Jasper, Arkansas and ran a hardware store until moving back to Harmon County in 1972. Fred later passed away in March, 1989. Nota Lee stayed in Vinson until her health began to fail and in 2003 moved to Mangum, where she lived until her death.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Claudine Mitchell and two brothers, Harold McCain and E.H. McCain, and one grandson, Robert Brunson. She is survived by one daughter Fredda Hodge and husband Garry of Harrison, AR; two grandchildren, Christine Kolb of Lahoma, OK and Leesha McLeod and husband Steve of Harrison, AR; five great grandchildren, Christina Cope, Brandon Cope, Cortney Kolb, Jennifer Newcomb and husband Darren, and Justin Brunson and wife Angela; three great great grandchildren; Shane, Dawson, and Ariel Newcomb; two very special friends, Stan and Diana Kendall along with many other friends and relatives.
Graveside services for Nota Lee Brunson will be at 10 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2013, at Cave Creek Cemetery, near Vinson, with Jerry Don Henry officiating. Interment will follow at Cave Creek Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
