Obituary for Norma Jeanette Williams-Mayes
Norma Jeanette Williams Mayes, 69, resident of Mangum, Oklahoma passed away at her home in Mangum on October 22, 2020. Norma was born on December 17, 1950 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the second child of Cody Carson Wilson and Evangeline Laverne Wilson. She spent her formative years living with her military family in England, Spain, and south Florida. When her dad retired from the military in 1961, the family moved to Greer County, Oklahoma. Norma attended school at City View, Mangum, and Panhandle State University.
Norma was a master potter and gardener. She left a legacy of art and beauty. She enjoyed hunting with her husband, tending her flock of chickens, teaching pottery, laughing with her friends, and spending time with her cherished granddaughters. Although she lived in many places, she spent her last years at the edge of the breaks northwest of Mangum. She loved her hometown.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and nephew Charlie McClure.
Left to honor her memory is her husband, David Mayes of the home; Daughter Mindi L Gutierrez of Norman, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Gabriella and Gemma of Norman, Oklahoma; Sisters, Carolyn Wilson of Mangum, Oklahoma, and Judy Bowman and husband David of Mangum, Oklahoma; stepson Tymothy Williams of Windsor, Wisconsin; and step grandson, Kai Williams of Windsor, Wisconsin.
