Obituary for Nora L. Chapman
Nora Lea Chapman, age 79, of Altus, passed away Saturday evening, August 29, 2009, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.
Nora was born February 1, 1930, in Retrop, Oklahoma, to Elmer Lewis and Lillie May (Aston) Beach. She married Thomas Lee Chapman on June 7, 1947, in Sayre, Oklahoma. They spent 59 amazing years together before his death in 2006.
Moving to Blair in 1990, Nora was a long time member of the Tamarack Street Church of Christ. Nora was a friend to all who knew her. She was an amazing mom, granny, and an amazing cook. She liked nothing more than to cook for her family and friends which she did daily for fourteen years for the cowboys on their ranch in Nowata, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and sister-in-law. Nora is survived by two children, Tommy Chapman and wife Brenda of Blair, and Sandra Fisher of Tuttle; five grandchildren, William Lee Desmond and wife Kay of Mustang; Monaca Sue Anne Bryant and husband John of Altus, Tracie Gayle Vail and husband Raymond of Pittsburgh, Kansas, Kevin Don Chapman and wife Heather of Blair, Keri Dawn Paugh and husband Gary of Blair; nine great-grandchildren, Colt and Cody Hocker of Altus; David Riley Desmond of Mustang, Kaleb Thomas Chapman of Blair, Tara Mertz and husband Mike of Elmer, Jonathan, Cory, Hannah, and Leah Bryant of Altus; one great-great-grandchild, Kaydynce Cara Griffis of Elmer, and one more due to arrive in January, Kanyon Michael Mertz of Elmer. She is also survived by one very special friend and neighbor, Dee McArthur.
Memorial Services for Nora Chapman will be held 11:00 Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at the Tamarack Church of Christ with Matt Springfield officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
