Nellie B. Smith



Nellie B. Smith was born September 5, 1901 at Nocona, Texas. She was the daughter of the lat Levi Bennett and Mattie Bennett Meadows. She died August 20, 1995 at the Spanish Cove Nursing Center in Yukon, Oklahoma. Nellie graduated from high school in Devol, Oklahoma. She had a Bachelor's Degree from Southwestern Teachers College (Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, Oklahoma) She also held a Master's Degree in Home Economics from Oklahoma State University. Nellie taught school for 41 years in several Oklahoma Communities; Tesca-1923-1928, Union-1928-1929, New Liberty 1920-1932 and 1936-1942, Hext-1932-1935,Doxey-1942-193, Sayer-1943-1945, Seminole-1946-1963, and Tipton-1963-1967. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church of the Wesleyan Service Guild. She was active in American Association of University Women, Business and Professional Women's Club, Order of the Eastern Star, where she was Past Worthy Matron, De;ta Kappa Gamma Teachers Society, American and Oklahoma Home Economics Associations.
