Obituary for Nelda Marie Byrd
Nelda Marie Byrd, age 77, passed away peacefully at her home of the last 14 years in Altus, Oklahoma on April 14, 2021. Nelda was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on March 24, 1944, to her parents, Harley Edward Bilyeu and Zelma Viola Williams (Moore). She was raised in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and graduated in the class of 1962.
During her life, Nelda was a firm believer in hard work and being a good provider for her children. Professionally, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma and was skilled in the medical field having served as a, CMA and CNA. Nelda was also a waitress and lifeguard in her younger days. She had a lot of hobbies and interests; a few of these were sewing, swimming, skating, she was also an avid reader, relished working on difficult crossword puzzles, was a “pool shark”, and was known as the shuffleboard “queen”. Everything she tried she excelled at. Although she enjoyed serving others, she was most passionate about taking great care of her family and ensuring that their needs were met.
Nelda loved God and believed in Jesus Christ the Risen Savior. On most Sundays, she enjoyed the spirit-filled sermons of her favorite minister, Charles Stanley.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harley Edward Bilyeu and Zelma Viola Williams (Moore).
Left to mourn her passing are two daughters: Carla June Nichols of Altus, OK; Anne Owens and her husband Shaun of Mangum, OK; one son: USMC Major Jarrod Scott Pierce and his wife, Leah currently stationed at Camp Smith, Hawaii; two brothers: Clyde Bilyeu of Medford, Ok; and Paul Bilyeu of Woodward, OK. One sister: Lorna Case of Tonkawa, OK; grandchildren, Zoey Owens of Hollis, OK, Destine Wood of Hollis, OK, Shaunna Foust of Cordell, Ok, Aaron Piece, of Camp Smith, Hawaii, Andrew Pierce, of Camp Smith Hawaii, Ainsley Pierce of Camp Smith, Hawaii, as well as other family members and a host of friends who loved her dearly.
