N.B. Thomas
N.B. Thomas, 83, of Altus passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
N.B. was born September 17, 1922, in Purcell, Oklahoma, to Napolean B. and Pearl Irene Thomas. He graduated from Purcell High in 1941. After High School N.B. served in the Navy during WWII. Also during his enlistment years he attended Harvard University and then TCU where he played football for the Horned Frogs. He completed his undergraduate years with a bachelors degree from Oklahoma A& M in Agriculture in 1949; in 1973 he earned his Master of Science degree from Oklahoma State University.
N.B. married Joan Mantooth December 24, 1946'in Purcell, and she preceded him in death in 2003.
N.B. worked for the Oklahoma Foundation Seed Stock from 1949 to 1957, then from 1957 to 1966, he worked for the Smith Lee Thomas Farms. In 1966 he moved to Altus to become the Area Agronomist through Oklahoma State University. Later he became the State Cotton Specialist for southwest Oklahoma until his retirement in 1987.
After retirement he enjoyed spending summer months in Colorado with his family and friends. He was an avid supporter of OSU Sports and looked forward to every event. N.B. was a deacon and elder at the First Christian Church.
He is survived by three children, Linda Wilson and husband Larry of Stillwater, David Thomas and wife Carla of Altus, and Terri Skinner and husband Robert of Carlsbad, New Mexico. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, and four sister.
