Obituary for Monroe Joseph Richards aka "Money"
Monroe Joseph Richards aka "Money", born on April 11th, 1947, of The Bronx, New York City, left us from this world for the great fishing hole in the sky on the morning of Tuesday, July 27th, 2021, at Texas Health Huguley Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Money died of natural causes after a long, brave battle with illnesses. He was 74 years old at the time of his departure.

Money was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Emily Richards; 2 sisters, Daphne Sledge and Marie Richards; and 2 brothers, Richard Richards and John Richards.

Money is survived by his devoted, loving wife Norma Richards, whom he shared 49 years of marriage of love and fond memories. He is survived by his daughter, Monica Richards; 2 sons, Mark Richards (Candace) and Martin Richards; a loving sister, Veronica Richards Ferrell (Walter); a close niece, Tonia Mexile (Garry); a close friend, Johnnie Flowers (Sandra); and a host of nephews, nieces, great friends and other relatives.

Money attended school in New York City and graduated from Aviation High School in Long Island City, New York, where he worked for Lew Magram Shirtmaker to the Stars. After high school, Money volunteered his services in the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Clark Air Base, Philippines. He was a Veteran in the Vietnam War. During his time in the military, Money married Norma Comanda in June 1972; where he had 3 children Monica Richards, Mark Richards, and Martin Richards. Money and his family evacuated the air base during the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991. Money was subsequently stationed in Altus, Oklahoma, where he retired from the USAF after proudly serving his country for 26 years (April 1966-July 1992). Money earned his Bachelor's of Science from Southern Illinois University. After his time in the military, Money served his community as a 911 dispatcher for the Altus Police Department until his retirement.

Money had a passion for life and adventure. He was an ardent fisherman. He liked nothing more than to scour bodies of water for the best fishing spots, casting his line out with a bucket full of minnows and a tackle-box full of lures, so much so, that his vehicles were always stocked with his fishing equipment, just in case he needed to throw a line out. He loved going to Hackberry, Louisiana, on fishing charters, spending time sharing his favorite hobby with family and loved ones. He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan and often reminisced discussing baseball with his late brother, John. He enjoyed blasting his jazz music while sipping on Balvenie, most often listening to Miles Davis, his favorite jazz musician. One of his biggest and important passions was his devotion to his Masonic family. He proudly served his community for multiple years with his Brothers at St. James Masonic Lodge #229. One of his proudest achievements was being bestowed a 33rd degree Mason in 2005.
