Obituary for Minnie Isabell Phelps
Minnie Isabell Phelps, age 94, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away May 18, 2002. Funeral Services, under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home in Altus, are set for 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002 at the First Baptist Church of Duke. The Rev Ralph Chapman will officiate, eulogy will be given by Rev Edward Smalts and burial will follow at Rock Cemetery in Duke.
Minnie was born on June 16th, 1907 in Frogue, Kentucky to parents William Martin and Ida Florence Thacker. She was a graduate of the Oklahoma Teachers College in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Minnie worked for 29 years as an educator, before retirement. She was united in marriage to Charles Ernest Phelps on March 7, 1941 in Frederick, Oklahoma. She was a long time resident of the Duke community, living there from 1936 to 1996. Minnie was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Duke.
Minnie was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; brothers, Jim, Andrew, Cordell, Roy, Jesse, Leonard, Raymond, Walter, Cecil; and great-grandson, Jacob Landon Alexander.
She is survived by her sister, Mae Hogan; sister-in-law, Betty Leeper; daughter, Emilie and husband Jerry Alexander; four grandchildren, Charla, Jeff and wife Sherelene, and Jodi; four great-grandchildren, David, Ethan, Collin and Jed; caregivers, Betty and Joe Barrares; hospice nurse, Lisa Forbes and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends and students.
