Mildred Underwood, age 86, of Clinton, formerly of Mangum, passed away early Sunday morning, May 16, 2010, at the United Methodist Health Care Center, in Clinton.
Mrs. Underwood was born in Jester, Oklahoma, on May 3, 1924, to Blaine Cornell and Mary May (Moffeitt) Paxton. After graduating from Willow School in 1941, she taught for a short time at Willow before marrying Terence Kyle (T.K.) Underwood on April 12, 1946. They spent fifty-four wonderful years together before his death on January 28, 2001. After their marriage, they moved to the farm, near Willow, and shortly thereafter, T.K. was called to serve his country in the Korean War. Mildred moved to Abilene, Texas to be near her parents while T.K. was overseas. After his return, they lived on the farm south of Mangum for a short time before moving into Mangum. A teacher who loved her students, Mildred later owned and operated Underwood"s Flowers in Hobart. After the death of her beloved T.K., she moved to Gotebo in 2001 and then to Clinton in 2006, where she lived until her death.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, one sister, Elaine Sibley and two brothers, Morse Paxton and Jim Paxton, she is survived by four children, Kyle Cumby and husband Randy of Altus, Donna Locklear and husband Orville of Clinton, Bruce Underwood and wife Terri of Gotebo and Mechelle Flanagan and husband Mark of Walters; nine grandchildren, Jay Cumby and wife Melissa, Scott Cumby, Dean Locklear and wife Jennifer, Leah Stewart and husband Damon, Kody Underwood and wife Bambi, Tracy Miles and husband Justin, Sean Flanagan, Connor Flanagan and Grace Flanagan; thirteen great grandchildren, Kadence Cumby, Joshua Cumby, Dean Locklear, Jr., Abbie Locklear, Ashtyn Locklear, Tanner Locklear, Garrett Christian, Blaine Christian, Klayton Underwood, Kenzi Underwood, J.W. Underwood, Gabbi Miles and J.B. Miles along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mildred Underwood will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Van Vacter officiating. Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
