Obituary for Mildred Jeanette Schmedt
Mildred Jeanette Schmedt, age 83, died Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
She was born February 22, 1918, in Jackson County, Oklahoma to Theodore and Edna Minor Alexander. She attended all 12 grades of school in Humphreys and earned her Bachelor and Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Jeanette married Erwin Fred Schmedt February 23, 1943 in Purcell, Oklahoma. She was a devoted wife for 50 years and a loving mother. She took special interest in her extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins and enjoyed her many friends.
In 42 years as an educator, she taught every grade, 1st through college, except 2nd and 4th grades. She taught at Frederick, Noble, Oklahoma University, Earlsboro, Falcon/Rivers in Altus, all in Oklahoma and at Post and Kress in Texas.
After retiring from teaching, Jeanette remained active in the family farm operation in the Humphreys area, the First United Methodist
Church, and community activities.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Theo Fred and Nancy Schmedt of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Wayne Edward and Linda Schmedt of Florissant, Missouri; grandsons, Stephen Fred Schmedt and wife, Holly, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Michael Alexander Schmedt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Jonathan Wayne Schmedt of Florissant, Missouri; grand daughters, Cari Lynn and Husband, David Buntin of San Antonio, Texas and Lindy Elizabeth Schmedt of Norman, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Leighton Alexander Buntin, Oliver Claire Buntin, Sydney Elizabeth Schmedt, and Carson Minor Buntin.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 13, 2001 at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery.
