Michelle Lynn Cox
Michelle Lynn Cox went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 25th, 2018 surrounded by her family.
Michelle was born March 12th, 1964 at Holloman Air Force Base, Alamogordo, New Mexico to Johnie and Bonnie Cox. Michelle and her family lived in Warner Robins, GA before making their permanent residence in Altus, OK. While attending Altus Public Schools Michelle was a member of the dance team and went on to graduate in 1982. In 1986 she earned a degree in Education at Cameron University and then attended Southwestern University and obtained her Master’s Degree in School Administration. Michelle taught school for 30 years for Altus Public Schools and was also a cheerleading coach for 17 of those years. She retired as Altus Junior High Vice Principal in 2018.
Michelle enjoyed cheerleading, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, spending time with friends, family and her dogs. She loved laying out in the sun with a good book and diet Coke and baking her famous “Cowboy†cookies for her family and friends.
Michelle is preceded in death by her grandparents, Hanie Cox, Keith Gilbert, Jauneta Gilbert and uncles Billy Cox, Jerry Smith and Jim Phenecie.
She is survived by her parents, Johnie and Bonnie (Gilbert) Cox; three brothers, Kelly and wife Nancy, Philip and wife Stacy and Robert and wife Debbie all of Altus, OK. Special friend, Bradley who is the son of Danielle and Tommy Tucker. He entertained Michelle for hours at a time. Nieces and nephews, Molly Giberti, Jenae Cox, Carly McDavid and husband Shawn, Nolan Cox, Allison Ridley and husband Garret, Bradley Cox and wife Jonna, Chloe Cox, Cole and Mason Giberti, and Sawyer McDavid
In Lieu of flowers Michelle requested that donations be made to ST. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday September 29th, 2018 at The First Baptist Church of Altus. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
