Obituary for Michael Joseph Monti
Michael Joseph Monti, age 77 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 at his home in Altus.
Michael was born in Washington D.C. on April 12, 1942 to his parents, Ercole "Pete" Monti and Mary Isabel (Henderson) Monti. Michael primarily grew up in California and Italy. He enlisted into the United States Air Force and served his country for 28 years until he retired. He continued working with the Civil Service for another 28 years and retired in 2018. Throughout the years Michael lived all over the world including, California, Italy, Texas, Thailand, Iceland, Germany, Philippines, Turkey, Greenland, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Korea. He finally landed at Altus Air Force Base where he managed the Officer’s Club before retiring. He married Wanida Thomthawa on March 12, 2013 in Thailand and they have enjoyed their years together very much. Michael became a Prince Hall Mason in 1977 and stayed active in the lodge over the years, eventually becoming a 33rd Degree Mason. Mike loved cars and going to car shows. He took great pride in his show cars over the years – "Bangkok Boogie", " The T-Bucket", “The 'Stang'. He was part of the Belgium Street Cruisers Association Car Club during his stay overseas. He loved going to the movies and watching TV Shows, reading, and spending time with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Pete Monti; and his sister, Nancy Granstedt.
Michael is survived by his wife Wandida Monti; three children, Robin Waltz; Dawn Monti; and Dominic Phimmilai; four grandchildren, Isabel Waltz, Alexander Luna, Michele Waltz and Danielle Waltz; his ex-wife and friend, Boonta Monti; as well as other family members and many friends.
The family will receive friends at Visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel in Altus with Father Cory Stanley officiating.
