Obituary for Melvin Chester Anderson
Melvin Chester Anderson, age 88, longtime Altus resident passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born June 26, 1912 at Prairie Hill to Bascomb Shuck Anderson and Lillie (Evans) Anderson. In 1936 at Prairie Hill Chester and Alice Smiser were united in marriage. Chester served with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945. after his service time he returned to Jackson County where he farmed and worked as Jackson County Treasurer until he retired in 1975. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall.

He is survived by his wife Alice of the home in Altus; two sons, Don Anderson of Altus, Oklahoma, Sam Anderson and his wife Tina of Colony, Texas, one sister, Evelyn Rice of Altus, Oklahoma, two brothers, Paul Anderson of Amarillo, Texas, Vernon Anderson and his wife Modena of Dallas Texas; tow grandsons, Sean Anderson of New York and John Anderson of Dallas, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
