Obituary for Melveta Faye Mefford
Melveta Faye (Jarvis) Mefford, 89, of Eldorado, Oklahoma, went to meet her Lord on Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis.
Melveta was born July 8, 1921, to Elbert and Lois (Daniels) Jarvis and was raised in the Lincoln Community just west of Eldorado. She married Bruce Mefford July 5, 1940, and they lived in the same community where they farmed and raised their family. They were blessed with three wonderful children, Myrna (Mefford) Taylor, Rick Mefford, and Daniel Mefford.
Melveta was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and was very active, teaching classes and being an outstanding leader in her faith. She returned to college after the children were born and graduated from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Being trained as a teacher, she taught school at Eldorado High School for several years before retirement.
Melveta"s husband, Bruce Mefford, and her parents, Elbert and Lois Jarvis, preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children, Myrna Taylor of Deming, New Mexico, Rick Mefford of Odessa, Texas, and Daniel Mefford and wife Bobbie of Blacklick, Ohio; her grandchildren, Kevin Taylor and wife Angela, Kerry Taylor and wife Jennifer, Tracey Taylor, Tisha Marshall and husband Steve, Angela Stapleton and husband Scott, Jonathan Mefford, Daniel Joseph Mefford, Robert Bruce Mefford, Devin Graves and wife Holly, and Shad Graves and wife Jenny; and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Mefford will lie in state at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Eldorado from Tuesday afternoon to Thursday morning.
Funeral Services for Melveta Mefford will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Corinth Baptist Church northwest of Eldorado with Reverend Richard Manning officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
