Obituary for Melrose Leafy Powers
Melrose Leafy Powers, life long resident of Eldorado, Oklahoma, passed away March 22, 2003 at grace Living Center in Altus, Oklahoma. Graveside services, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Eldorado, are set for 11:00 am Monday, March 24, 2003 at the Eldorado City Cemetery.
Melrose was born to Lloyd and Lue Maberry Walker on February 3, 1919. Melrose grew up in Midway community and graduated from Midway School. After graduation, she moved to Watonga, Oklahoma.
On October 9, 1947 she married Orla P. Powers. He worked in the insurance business, which allowed them to live in Watonga but also Amarillo and San Angelo, Texas. After their retirement they moved to Eldorado.
Although she had many hobbies her favorite was gardening, growing flowers and her vegetable garden. Melrose was an active member of the Eldorado United Methodist Church up to the time she moved to Grace Living Center.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Orla P. Powers in 1988 and her brother Maburn Walker. she is survived by two daughters, Shirley Phillips of Georgia and Wanda Garrett and husband Henry of La Port, Texas; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Senior Walker of Eldorado, Oklahoma; three sisters-in-law. Phyllis Walker of Eldorado, Oklahoma, Vennie Walker of Altus, Oklahoma and Vergie Powers of Watonga, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.
