Melford Jolly Fagan, age 85, of Altus, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Southwestern Medical Center, in Lawton.
Mr. Fagan was born in Whitharral, Texas on June 3, 1929, to Clifford and Celie (Payne) Fagan. Graduating from Whitharral High School, Melford came to Altus to visit his relatives and met the love of his life, Robbie Jean Duke, and they were married on February 21, 1949. They spent the next sixty-six wonderful years together before his death. After their marriage, they moved back to Texas, but a short time later, they were back in Altus to start their new home. Melford worked for a time for Cameron Lumber. He later began digging ditches by hitching a one way plow to his pickup. Robbie drove while Melford followed behind the one way. In 1954, Melford began plumbing and for the next forty-eight years he worked as a contractor for Fagan Plumbing, Heat and Air. Melford was instrumental in starting the Ridgecrest Road Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for over forty-eight years.
Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Castle Fagan, Clinton Fagan and James Fagan and two sisters, Rosa Fagan and Conoy Townsend, he is survived by his wife, Robbie, of the home; two children, Brenda Myers and husband David of Altus and Melford Dewayne Fagan and wife Felice of Altus; four grandchildren, David Myers of Altus, Jeanell Myers of Altus, Chastity Scarle of Altus and Anthony Fagan and wife Rhonda of Oklahoma City; ten great grandchildren, Cody, Lauren, Jordan, Zyra Lynn, Savanah, Izabella, Skeeter, Michael, Sammy and Isaac; one great-great grandchild, Marlee; one sister Vera White of Corsicana, Texas along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Melford Fagan will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the Ridgecrest Road Church of Christ with Evangelist Jerry McCorkle and Evangelist Dee Teel officiating.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, from 6 until 7 p.m.
