Obituary for Mattie Lee Kent
Mrs. Mattie Lee Kent, age 93, long time resident of the Olustee and Altus communities, died Saturday night at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services have been set for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday at Lowell Memorial Chapel, officiated by the Reverend C. C. Gober. Burial will be in Olustee Cemetery under direction of Lowell Funeral Home.
Born April 19th, 1885 at Orpha, Georgia, she was married in 1902 in Logan Township, Arkansas, to the late Fred A. Kent. He died in 1940. They had come to this area in 1907, and over the years had been residents of Arkansas, Yale, OK, Chickasha and she had been a permanent resident of Altus since 1967. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Alice French of Lubbock, Texas and Mrs. Marguerite Williams of Boulder City, NV; one brother, Mr. Ralph Phillips of Olustee; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Hayes of South Gate, Mrs. Alice Simpson of Ryan, OK and Mrs. Clara Stearns of Grand Forks, ND; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
