Obituary for Mary Phelan
Mary Elizabeth Rodgers Phelan was in Toronto, Canada, November 8,1918. She moved from Toronto, Canada to Rochester, New York in the 1930's. She took piano lessons from Maestro Guy Frasier Harrison. She was a Pediatric nurse an X-ray graduate from Strong Memorial Hospital in the mid 1940's and was affiliated with Syracuse University. She received her X-ray certificate # 5997 October 1, 1946.

Mary married William Francis Phean August 5, 1946 in Fort Holabird, Maryland and became an Air Force wife. They lived in Washington, D.C. and Mary gave birth to William R. (Skip) Phelan June 16, 1949. On January 9, 1950 Sturart David (Patrick) Phelan was born.

With being a Air Force family came many moves; Ft, Hamilton, Bermuda 1951-53, Phoenix, Arizona 1953-55. Gave birth to third son John Albert Phelan October 26, 1955. Transferred tp St. Paul, Minnesota (Ft. Snelling) 1955-59; Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico 1957-60; Altus AFB Altus, Oklahoma 1960-64, High Wycombe Air Station, England 1964-66 and back to AFB, Altus, Oklahoma July 1966.

Mary worked as X-ray technologist at Jackson County Memorial Hospital and became cheif of the Radiology Department in the 1970's and retired from S-ray in the 1980's.

She knitted hand puppets for churches, nursing home patients and made her own clothes. She was also a great cook and made home cooked every day. She was a financial anchor for the family. Mary endured several surgeries with full recovery except for her eyesight. With all she did Mary never needed to or learned to drive a car.

Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Phelan are set for Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Lowell-Tims Chapel, at 11:00am, with interment following at Altus City Cemetery.
