Obituary for Mary K. Whitfield
Mary Whitfield age 83 of Hollis, Oklahoma entered into heaven's gates on Sunday morning, July 4, 2021 at her home in Hollis.
Mary was born in Hollis on November 30, 1937 to her parents Enix Bishop and Sallie (Enix) Bishop. Mary grew up in the Dryden Community and received her education at Booker T. Washington. She married Charles Mason Whitfield, Sr. on June 19, 1955 in Hollis and they lived in Fort Worth, Texas where Mary was a homemaker until Charles, Sr. passed away in 1966 and the family relocated to Hollis. Mary worked as domestic engineer in Hollis until she began her work with the Community Action of Southwest Oklahoma Transit Bus driving. With Southwest Transit Mary was the pioneer for children being picked up and she served her community for over eighteen years. Mary was a longtime member of the Calvary Community Church in Hollis and she served as a church mother and a clerk. Mary enjoyed her family and going to church praising God more than anything and she will be missed very much by all of her family members and friends.
Family members preceding Mary in death was her husband, Charles Mason Whitfield, Sr.; her parents, Enix and Sallie Bishop; one brother, Anderson Jr. Bishop; one sister, Dora Lee Flemings; one grandson, Ray Charles Shrubs, II; two great grandchildren, Marcus and Gabriel Jeremiah; and a niece, Tine O'Neal.
Left to honor Mary's legacy are her five children; sons, Rickey Whitfield of Hollis; and Charles Whitfield of Hollis; daughters, Sandra Callins and husband Pokey of Mangum, Oklahoma; Debra Johnson and husband Thomas "Herbie" of Hollis; and Sonja Fox and husband Darrin of Moore, Oklahoma; one sister, Sue Kennedy; nineteen grandchildren; fifty-two great grandchildren; and twenty-eight great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, many other family members and friends.
The family will great friends at visitation from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Calvary Community Church in Hollis.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at the Calvary Community Church in Hollis with Pastor Tyrone Campbell officiating.
Interment will follow services at the Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis, Oklahoma under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
