Obituary for Mary Ellen McMahan
Mary Ellen McMahan, age 73, of Altus, passed away late Thursday evening, December 15, 2005 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Mary was born on April 1, 1932 in Hess, Oklahoma to Clayton and Mattie (Nance) Yates. She graduated from Southside School and from Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha. On April 11, 1952, she married the love of her life, Hatton McMahan, in Vernon, Texas and they spent fifty-three wonderful years together. On of their favorite pastimes was traveling and they enjoyed trips to every state in the Union together.
Mary loved to play bridge, golf and read and even learned to fly an airplane. A Longtime member of the First Christian Church, Mary was also a member of the Eastern Star and had previously a been a member of the Aldonian Club.
preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Clay Yates and his wife Dorothy, Mary is survived by a family that she dearly loved; husband, Hatton of the home, one daughter, Diann McMahan; two sons, Philip McMahan and Dan McMahan all of Altus, tow grandchildren who were the lights of her life and she was so proud of, Ross Smith of McKinney, Texas and Cannon McMahan of Oklahoma City; a sister-in-law, Frances Mock and husband John along with many other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral services for Mary McMahan will be Sunday, December 18, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Brown, minister of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The McMahan family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Saturday, December 17, 2005 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
The family has asked that memorials be made to the First Christian Church memorial Fund in memory of Mary McMahan or to a charity of their choice.
