In Loving Memory of Mary Alice (Jill or JJ) Speir
JJ was a loving, caring, energetic mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend. She unexpectedly passed away on April 1st, 2014, in Malaga, Spain-an annual winter destination.
JJ was born on November 9th, 1939 in Altus, Oklahoma to Charles and Cletis Johnson. JJ is survived by her sons Ryan and Eddie Speir, their wives Vanessa and Claire, her cousins, Marjorie Garrison, Beverly Johnson Gramling, Loyd (Butch) English, Jan Lane Warner and Glenn English as well as her beloved grandchildren, Tal, Oliver, Sam Riley and Autumn Spear.
JJ attended Altus High School in Altus, OK and went to the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She remained active with Chi Omega throughout her life. She graduated with a degree in Business Education in 1961 and married in 1962. After years as a homemaker she went to work for TCI in the Denver Tech Center. She completed her Master"s degree in Vocational Education at Colorado State University. JJ Worked and volunteered in the Cherry Creek School District. She alo volunteered at the Castlewood library.
JJ had a lifelong interest in learning. She enjoyed watching movies, reading, walking and hiline. She loved playing bridge and cheering on her OU Sooners. JJ traveled extensively and found great joy and friendship during her many travels.
Services will be held at Good Shepard Church in Englewood, Colorado at 4pm on May 8th, 2014. Services will also be held at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus, Oklahoma at 4pm on May 10th, 2014. Burial will follow in the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the OU Chapter of the Chi Omega sorority or to your favorite charitable organization.
