Obituary for Marven Wesley Mowdy
Wesley Mowdy, 76, of Altus, passed away peacefully at his home early Wednesday morning, July 1, 2009.
Wesley was born May 19, 1933, in Colgate, Oklahoma, to Marvin Earl and Verna Mae (Beck) Mowdy. He lived in several towns in Oklahoma, including Colgate, Martha, Mangum, Blair, and Altus. He served his country during the Korean Conflict for two years, where he served as a medic. Wesley married Merle Dean Yarber February 13, 1961, in Mangum, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death June 27, 1984.
Wesley is survived by two sons, Charles Mowdy of Altus, and Mike Mowdy and wife Lana, also of Altus; three daughters, Kellie Latham and husband Derrick of Altus, Marsha Sipat and husband Billy of Sunnyvale, California, and Marla Sharpe and husband John of Ridondo Beach, California; his brothers and sisters, Francis Allen, Albert Marion Mowdy, Jimmy Mowdy, Roburn Mowdy, Erla Mae Bray; Betty Crumpton, Verna Henning, Thomas Mowdy, and Vonda Bullington; six grandchildren, Lyndsey Mosier, Dakota Latham, Alex Mowdy, Madison Mowdy, Michael Mowdy, Kyler Sipat, Connor Sipat, and granddog, "Boomer." He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and numerous friends and other extended family.
Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Merle Dean, three brothers, Ernest Mowdy, Theodore Mowdy, and Robert Mowdy, and one sister, Rita Barber.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 2, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Chapel.
Funeral Services for Wesley Mowdy will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2009, at the Martha Road Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Baker officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
