Martha Ellen White Baker, age 87, of Wellington, Texas and formerly of Mangum, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 17, 2014, at Collingsworth General Hospital.
Mrs. Baker was born in Ozark, Missouri, on May 8, 1927, to Clifford Ray and Clema Ellen (Tennis) Arterberry. In the mid 1930"s the family moved to McKinley, Texas and later to Elk City, Oklahoma. In the 1940"s they moved to the Jester area and later to Reed. On January 28, 1945, she married Wesley Oliver White and he preceded her in death in July 1983. After moving to Mangum, Martha worked for many years at the Mangum Steam Laundry and for a time at the City Caf". After the death of her husband, she lived in Blair and Altus for a short time. In 1998 she moved to Wellington and worked for Pratt Cleaners until 2012, until her health began to fail. Martha was a licensed minister in the Church of God and loved attending worship services and studying her Bible. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, playing Phase 10 and dominoes.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Winford Arterberry, Luke Arterberry, Paul Arterberry, Raymond Arterberry and Richard Arterberry; one sister Pauline Bass and one daughter, Louise Phelps, she is survived by six children Ruth Evelyn Nease of Willow, Mary Ann Pate and husband Romme of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Oliver Roy White and wife Melissa of Wellington, Texas, Winford Leon White of Granite, Beatrice Fern Waddel and husband James of Altus and Betty Guillentine of Dumas, Texas; one sister, Juanita Wall of Hammon, Oklahoma; twenty-four grandchildren; forty-two great grandchildren, seventeen great-great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Martha White will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the Living Waters Pentecostal Church with Pastor Oliver White, Pastor Romme Pate and Pastor David Weber officiating. Interment will follow at the Reed Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
