Obituary for Marlon Baxter Savage
Marlon Baxter Savage, 92, of Bethany, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City. Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:00 pm, Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Keith Wiginton and Rev. Laddie Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

He was born September 7, 1920 in Grand Saline, Texas to Beulah Hardy Savage and Henry A. Savage. He was the youngest of 8 children. The family moved to Oklahoma when Marlon was a baby and established residency in the Friendship community. When his father was elected Sheriff for Jackson County, they moved to Altus. He attended Altus High School and played the trombone in the band. He attended one year of college at Oklahoma University. Marlon worked at White's Auto store in Hobart, Oklahoma where he met and married Winona Mitchell in 1942. They had 5 children: Larry, David, Gayle, Jan, and Beverly. Winona passed away in April of 1975.

Marlon enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and served for 3 years. After his discharge, he returned to work with White's Auto in Hobart. During the 35 years he worked for White's, he managed stores in Altus, Paris, Texas, Big Springs, Texas, San Angelo, Texas and Denver, Colorado. While in Denver, Marlon was promoted to the Rocky Mountain Region District Manager. After the passing of Winona, he and his youngest daughter moved to Altus to be near family. He bought the hardware store in Blair and established Savage True Value which he operated until 1996 at the age of 76.

He married Willie Mae Houpe in November 1976 and welcomed to his life her two children, Deahn Savage and John Houpe. He and Willie Mae moved to Bethany, Oklahoma in 1996 to be near Deahn as the other children lived out of state. Marlon and Willie Mae enjoyed over 36 years of marriage together.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Winona Savage; one stepson, John Houpe; a granddaughter, Lindsay Savage; and two sons, David Savage and Larry Savage.

Marlon is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Houpe Savage of the home in Bethany, Oklahoma; Gayle Savage and Karen of Anchorage, Alaska; Jan Hard and Louis of Denver, Colorado; Beverly Stone and Hardy of Frederick, Maryland; Irene Savage of Dearborn Heights, Michigan; Deahn and Mike Savage of Bethany, Oklahoma. Also surviving are 4 grandsons, 9 granddaughters, and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorials can be made in Marlon Savage's name to the Integris Hospice House, 13920 Quailbrook, Dr. Oklahoma City, OK 73134, Cancer Research or the charity of your choice.
