Mark E. Hall, age 90, of Mangum, passed away Wednesday morning, March 10, 2010, at Mangum Community Hospital.
Mark was born March 18, 1919, to Carl and Mattie (Allen) Hall of Vinson, Oklahoma. He attended school at Carl and Vinson. He grew up in a large family and loved to play the mandolin and guitar. Mark, along with his mother, brother and friend, played on the radio station at Elk City during his teen years. He enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and attended several camps. He married Anna Beth Lewis from Hollis in 1942. His daughter, Markquetta, was born that same year in Hollis. Mark joined the Army in 1942 and trained at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. As a member of the 81st Tank Battalion, Mark named the tank he drove "Tessie Belle". He fought in Belgium, Germany and the "Battle of the Bulge" during WWII. When the war ended, Mark worked in the Perryton, Texas area, eventually becoming a drilling rig superintendent. He worked in Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Argentina. Mark and his family made their home in Borger, Texas. Beth died in 1995. Mark later married Dora Faye Moore, and the couple made their home in Mangum, Oklahoma. Mark was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beth; five brothers, Gene, Lewis, Seth, Jeff and Allen Hall; three sisters, Allie Brown, Erma Stafford and Lydia Bierich. He is survived by his wife Dora; his daughter and son-in-law, Markquetta and Marvin Johnson of Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Mitchell and husband Alvie of Mangum and Dollie Mitchell and husband Allie of Canadian, Texas.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Greer Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Todd, of the Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will follow at Independence Cemetery, west of Vinson.
