Marijyl "Jyl" Woodress, age 63 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
Jyl was born in Olney, Texas on July 25, 1954 to her parents Dr. Raymond and Mary Helen Hander. She was raised in Wichita Falls and graduated from Rider High School. On October 3, 1974 Jyl married Von Woodress in Wichita Falls and they have enjoyed over 43 years of marriage together. The family lived in Wichita Falls and Altus where Jyl took care of her family and worked as a mentor coordinator for the Altus schools for over nineteen years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus and enjoyed being involved with the youth programs. Jyl was a member of PARB and she always enjoyed helping others especially youth. She was a loving person who always had a shoulder for someone to cry on and her doors where always open to anyone who needed anything. Jyl always had something to eat, (sweets-snacks-full course meals), they were always on hand. She loved her family and treasured going to her granddaughter Brynne's activities. Jyl always told anyone she could about Jesus and she will be missed greatly.
Preceded in death by her parents and her brother Richard "Dickey" Hander; Jyl is survived by her husband Von of the home; her son Bray Woodress and wife Bridget; two sisters, Jamie Speedy Smith and husband Geral of Trinchera, Colorado, and Raymonda Almond and husband Lyndon of College Station, Texas; two grandchildren Brynne Woodress and Brooke Stover; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 5:30 until 6:30 on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
