Obituary for Marie Medaris Robertson
Marie Robertson, a former resident of Mangum, Oklahoma passed away July 4, 2023, in Lubbock, Texas.
On June 9, 1928, three and a half miles southeast of Mangum, Oklahoma a baby girl was to W.B. and Mamie (Young) Mederis. They named her Marie Mederis.
Marie was raised and educated in Greer County, Oklahoma. At the young age of twelve Marie accepted Jesus Christ by praying the sinner's prayer. The very next Sunday, at the First Baptist Church of Mangum, Marie was baptized, this would the beginning of a life devoted to the church and to Jesus Christ. In May of 1945, Marie graduated from City View High School. After graduation Marie started working at Brum Drug in Mangum through hard work and dedication to her craft she would be promoted to pharmacist. She achieved her license thru self-study and taking her state boards. Marie retired in 2008 after sixty-three years of service. She saw many changes to her profession and was always known for her professionalism, attention to detail, her knowledge, and her love of taking care of the people of Mangum. She loved people and loved caring for them. Marie had a servant's heart, this was most evident in her love of family, friends, and even strangers. She treated everyone as if they were family members.
At a young age, Marie married Jim Beaty. In the 1950s Jim died very unexpectedly from a trucking accident while hauling cattle from Mangum to Oklahoma City. This would greatly shape Marie life, she leaned on her family and Jesus to get her through those hard days. After much prayer and soul searching Marie met and fell in love with Kenneth Delmer Robertson they would be united in Marriage on October 15, 1960, at the First Baptist Church in Mangum, Oklahoma. Delmer passed away in 1998. The foundation of Marie life was her faith she was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church of Mangum before moving to Lubbock in 2016 to be closer to family.
Marie leaves a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and dedication to her family, friends, and to her lord and savior Jesus Christ.
She was received in heaven by her father, W.B. Mederis; mother, Mamie (Young) Mederis; Sisters, Billie Wortham, Lucille Hay; husbands, Jim Battie, and Delmer Robertson.
Left to honor Marie's memory are her stepdaughters, Glenda Mahar, Lou Ann Sornson, Tracy Holt, Wayne Tillman, Richard Tillman; nephew, Joe Hays, and wife Judy; great-niece, Christy Turner, nephew, Dr. Wesley Hay.
