Obituary for Marian Frances Chaney
Marian Chaney a longtime resident of Altus, OK passed away Thursday January 9, 2020 in Oklahoma City at the age of 90 years 4 months and 6 days.
Marian Frances Kitterman Chaney was born on September 3, 1929 in Sapulpa, Ok to Leonard Francis Kitterman and Elva Loyle Snead. Marian grew up an only child and was given nurturing attention by her parents and her Grandmother Snead. She attended Sapulpa High school graduating in 1946. After high school Marian pursued a music education degree at Washington University in St. Louis for one year, then returned to Oklahoma where she continued her education at Oklahoma Baptist University for a year, and finishing her education at Oklahoma A&M. Marian graduated in 1950 with a Lifetime Music Education Degree and was part of the last graduating class to receive the lifetime degree. On June 1, 1950 Alvin and Marian were married in Sapulpa, Ok, and enjoyed 69 years of marriage together. In 1968 Marian attended Central State University where she continued her education and received her master's degree in Elementary Education. After Graduation she started teaching in Olustee, Ok. Marian was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Altus where she enjoyed signing in the church choir and playing piano for services and Sunday school classes. Marian also loved keeping journals all her life, playing dominoes, and watching "As the World Turns". Most of all Marian loved her family and friends and she will be missed very much.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Chaney, her parents, one brother in Law, four Sisters in law, and a daughter in law Jill Marie Chaney.
Marian is survived by her two sons Alan Chaney of Altus, and Mark Chaney and wife Catherine of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren Brian Chaney and wife Lisa of Altus, Deborah Chaney of Altus, Rebekah Glaab and husband Chris of Wichita, Ks and Heather Hood and husband Nick of Altus. Two great grandchildren Charles Chaney and T.J. Hood; numerous nieces and nephews as well as many other family and friends.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday January 17, 2020 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating.
