Maria Elena Ugarte De Jaimes, age 65, of Altus, passed away Wednesday evening, May 21, 2014, at OU Medical Center, in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. De Jaimes was born in Mexico on August 2, 1948, to Romolo and Ugarte (Lonjina) Rivera. Growing up in Mexico, Maria worked in her mom"s furniture store and later in her mom"s restaurant. While working for her mom, at the furniture store, she met Armando De Jaimes and they were married a short time later. They later opened an ice cream shop and ran that for a time. Moving to Austin, Texas for a short time in 1994, a few months later, the family moved to Altus to be near her friends. Her husband, Armando worked at the Martha Gin for several years prior to his death on December 12, 2012. A homemaker all of her life, Maria kept her home spotlessly clean, was a marvelous cook and loved taking care of her flowers. A loving and caring person, Maria loved her family dearly and enjoyed being with them and caring for them.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Adrian Ugarte, she is survived by her son, Adrian Jaimes Ugarte; one sister, Barbara Ugarte of Mexico and one brother Jose Ignacio Ugarte of Mexico and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, May 26, 2014, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday May 27, 2014, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
