Obituary for Marguarete A. Clemmer
Marguarete Arvetta “Marvette” Holt Clemmer, 83, a longtime resident of Willow, Oklahoma, passed away on November 28, 2020 In Elk City, Oklahoma. Marguarete was born on February 1, 1937 in Gorman, Texas, to Aubrey and Carnie Courtney Holt. Her family later moved to Kermit, Texas, where she was raised.
Marguarete graduated from Kermit High School in 1956. She met Daniel Rayford Clemmer in October 1959 and they were married in The First Methodist Church of Kermit, Texas, on February 12, 1960. They lived in Kermit, Texas, where both of their daughters were born, until 1966.
Marguarete and Daniel moved to Shamrock, Texas, in March 1966, where she worked supervising her home. She belonged to and volunteered at the First Methodist Church in the Women’s Circle, as Sunday school superintendent, and communion steward. She also belonged to Beta Sigma Phi and the Shamrock Elementary School PTO, holding leadership positions in each one. Her daughters are so grateful that she realized the importance of education in their future and she returned to work outside the home to help pay for their college education. In return, they both honored her belief in them and graduated with their degrees.
Marguarete and Daniel moved to Jal, New Mexico, in 1982, and then on to El Paso, Texas, in 1989. They retired to Willow, Oklahoma, in 1996, to the farm where Daniel had been raised. She joined the Greer County Extension Club and entered many items in the yearly Greer County Fair. She won several times for her wild plum jelly along with other entries.
Marguarete was an expert seamstress and made all of her and her daughters’ clothes for many years. She shared her talent with many others during those years. Once she retired, she began making beautiful quilts for her family. She was a perfectionist and it showed with each heirloom she made.
Marguarete was member of the United Methodist Church in Willow. She quickly became the communion steward and held that post until the final five years of her membership. She loved attending church and all the activities held there.
She loved her family and enjoyed the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a doting “Nanna”.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Daniel R Clemmer; her parents; brothers, Courtney Holt and Donald Holt; and grandchild, Kevin Thompson.
Marguarete is survived by daughters, Misty Hendricks and husband Mike, Danna Thompson and husband Stephen; grandchildren, Courtney Smith and husband Sean, Katie Barker and husband Jonah, and Elizabeth Thompson; great-grandchildren, Martin Thompson, Jane Smith, and Lucy Smith: and sisters Kathlyan Bishop and Betty Harris.
