Margaret LaVerne Nuckolls, age 79, of Granite, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 12, 2009, surrounded by family at her residence, in Granite.
Mrs. Nuckolls was born on a farm north of Granite, on September 2, 1930, to Carl and Lillie (Ballard) Calhoun. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Gould for a time and then back to Granite when LaVerne was nine years old. After graduating from Granite in 1950, she moved to Oklahoma City, for a job, and later met and married Robert E. Nuckolls of Ponca City on September 20, 1958. In 1962, they moved to Granite where they made their home. Beginning in the mid 1970"s LaVerne cooked at the school lunchroom for sixteen years. A faithful member of the Church of Christ, Mrs. Nuckolls enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Robby Berna and two sisters, Mary Cook and Fannie Varner, she is survived by her husband, Robert E. Nuckols, of the home; four children, Carol Berna and husband Robert of Choctaw, Ellis Nuckolls and wife Jill of Stillwater, Roberta Simington and husband Kenneth of Eula, Texas and Robert L. Nuckolls and wife Suellyn of Grand Forks, North Dakota; eight grandchildren, Chessie Underwood of Choctaw, Gerald Nuckolls of Stilllwater, Gaylin Washam and husband John of Stillwater, Jared Simington of Eula, Texas, Grant Simington of Eula, Texas, Shanna Nuckolls, Nicole Nuckolls and Nathon Nuckolls all of Grand Forks, North Dakota; five great grandchildren, Eli Underwood, Jason Underwood, Robby Underwood and Caleb Lee all of Choctaw and Isabella Washam of Stillwater; four sisters, Betty Parsons of Midwest City, Ruby Anderson of Hurst, Texas, Della Thompson of Midwest City and Myrtie Clarke and husband Ron of Ada; three brothers, Leon Calhoun and wife Roberta of Blanchard, Lee Calhoun and wife Sue of Granite and Robert Calhoun and wife Karen of Lone Wolf along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for LaVerne Nuckolls will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the Granite Church of Christ with Ken Hamilton officiating. A private burial will follow at a later date. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home in Granite on Friday evening from 6 until 7 p.m.
