Malean Coleman Mitchell, age 92, formally of Mangum, passed away on April 25, 2013 in Arlington, Texas.
Malean was born to Dollie and Allen Franklin Coleman on July 1, 1920. Malean was married to Oliver James Mitchell on December 24, 1938. She lived in the Mangum area all of her life except for several years when she and her late husband managed apartments in Bethany, Oklahoma, and the last few years where she lived in Grand Prairie, Texas near her daughter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mangum, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Malean loved Jesus Christ, her family, music, and writing songs and poetry.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband and four sisters, Anna Merritt, Cinderella Bogart, Jodie Bell Mitchell, and Etoyle Bell., Malean is survived by one sister, Cora Jane Chambers; one daughter, Judy Mitchell Strickland of Grand Prairie, Texas; two grandchildren, Byron Strickland of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Lisa Strickland Hill of Atlanta, Georgia.
Funeral services for Malean Mitchell will be at 2p.m., Monday, April 29, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Mangum with Shawn Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
