Obituary for Lula S Bishop-Kennedy
Lula Sue Bishop Kennedy age 76 of Hollis, Oklahoma walked through Heavens gates on Friday August 16, 2024 at English Village Nursing Facility in Altus, Oklahoma.
Sue as she liked to be called, or Sue Baby as she was affectionately called was born in Hollis, Oklahoma to Enix (Bot) Bishop and Sallie Ann (Woods) Bishop. Sue grew up in the Dryden Community and received her early education in the Ron School System. Her first marriage was to Oma Lee Burris, then in the mid 1980's she fell in love with her forever love and married John Henry Kennedy in 1988. They were married for thirty - five years until he passed away on May 12, 2023. Sue led a colorful life driving 18-Wheeler Trucks for years while living in Billings Montana. She then made her home in Amarillo, Texas where she played on a Semi-Pro Volleyball team. When she returned to Hollis, she worked briefly at English Village Nursing Facility in Altus Oklahoma. She then began her work for the Hollis Police Department as a Police Dispatcher. She was a pioneer in that field becoming the first person of Color and woman to hold the position until she retired after twenty plus years of service to Harmon County.
Sue was a longtime member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Hollis. Sue loved her children and grandchildren. She also loved her extended family. She was known as the fun Aunty.
She will be greatly missed by all. Sue is preceded in death by her husband John H. Kennedy; Parents Enix (Bot) Bishop and Sallie Ann (Woods) Bishop; one brother, Anderson Jr. Bishop; two sisters, Dora Lee Flemings, and Mary Whitfield Smith; one niece, Tine O'Neal; one great grandson, Easton Lee Nash.
Sue is survived by her children Pamela Burris Allen of Ft. Worth, Texas, Pastor Tammy Bishop Ingram and husband Thomas of Hollis, Oklahoma, Johnny Bishop of Hollis, Oklahoma, and Sharla Bishop Cartwright and husband Christopher of Arlington, Texas. 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 nieces, 2 nephews, and a host of great nieces and nephews. Two special friends Ms. Jessie Bell Means and Ms. Alberta Davis of Hollis,

The Bishop family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2024 at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tammy Ingram officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis, Oklahoma.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis, Oklahoma.
