Obituary for Lonnie Sue Barton
Sue Barton was born July 31, 1934, in Altus, Oklahoma to Frank and Edith Overfield. She died October 24, 1995, in Oklahoma City following surgery.
She was united in marriage to John Yudell Barton on June 26, 1958, at the First Baptist Church in Altus. They had two children.
Sue attended her twelve years of school in Altus, graduating with the class of 1952. She went to college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma, attaining a degree in Speech Therapy.
In 1955 she was hired by Clifford Peterson to initiate the Speech Therapy program into the Altus Public Schools, where she taught for 15 years before leaving to join her husband in the drug store business.
She is survived by her husband, her mother, Edith Overfield, a daughter, Mary Barton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a son John Barton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank "Hop" Overfield.
She will be terribly missed.
Services will be at Lowell-Tims Chapel, 10:00am Saturday, October 28, 1995, officiated by Sonny Tims, Eulogy by Larry Casperson. Burial will be at Altus City Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Friday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
The Sue Barton Scholarship fund will be set up with donations being received at First National Bank of Altus and Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
