Services for Lily Oden will be Thursday, May 27, at 2:00pm in the First United Methodist Church, Altus, officiated by Rev. Ken Pate and Rev. Bob Feist.

Lily Oden was born in Amarillo, Texas, where she attended public school. She graduated with a degree in music education from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. She also studied music at Oklahoma ;City University. She taught piano most of her life ad also taught public school music. she married attorney Waldo Oden, and their children are Tal Oden of Altus, Dr. Thomas Oden of Madison, New Jersey, and Sarah Hampson of Charleston, South Carolina.

She came to the area to teach music at the Blair School. She also taught at Wilson Elementary School in Altus. Over a period of many decades, she taught hundreds of piano students and held frequent recitals for the students. She was active in the community in matters of charity, education, fine arts, and community service. For many decades she has been a member of the McDowell Club of Allied Arts, Chapter CM of P.E.O. and the Oklahoma Music Teacher's Association. She assisted in beginning a number of public charitable projects, including Associated Christian Ministries, Inc. She has been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1928, and has taught the Anne L. Horton Women's Sunday School Class there for many years. She has been an active of the United Methodist Women Choir, the Council on Ministries, the Administrative Board, and has held numerous positions of leadership in the church. She was a music resource person for the community, and assisted the production of local music and arts events. She taught private piano music to students from all walks of life and groups within the community. A number of her students have become performers, theachers and professional person. She and her husband, Waldo Oden, were instrumental in assisting the development of Western Oklahoma State College where he was a regent. They created a special scholarship and she was an active supporter and advocate for the college, and specifically, for its fine arts program.
