Obituary for Leon Card Cole
Leon Cole, age 79 of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.
Leon was born in the family home in the Dryden Community, Harmon County, Oklahoma on February 6, 1942 to his parents Arlie Otis Cole and Ruby Agnes (Young) Cole. Leon was a proud graduate of the Class of 1960 from Ron High School. Shortly after high school, Leon married Linda Taylor and to that union three children were born. Leon served his country in the Oklahoma Army National Guard from 1963 until 1999 and he received an honorable discharge as well as numerous awards and decorations for his service. On May 11, 1977 Leon married the love of his life Nita McCalley in Duke, Oklahoma and to that union three children were born and they have enjoyed over forty-four years of marriage together. Leon was a lifelong farmer and rancher and he worked as a loading foreman at the Republic Gypsum in Duke from 1968 until 2008. Leon helped his dad dig water wells with their company, Cole and Son Drilling and he also had a custom hay bailing operation. As a young man, he enjoyed drag racing, watching Nascar, and fishing. Leon loved his family, he enjoyed raising cattle, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, and he will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Trent Wells; and two sons-in-law, Dale Strickland; and Rob Wells. Leon is survived by his wife, Nita Cole of their home in Hollis; six children, Lana Cole of Hollis; Lyndell Cole and wife Sheila of Hollis; Lisha Strickland of Hollis; Lori Clark and husband Scott; Lesly Nix and husband Randy of Buncombe Creek, Lake Texoma; and Lance Cole of Hollis; seventeen grandchildren, Blake, Brad, and Kevin; Justin and Tanner; Shanna, Carl, and Mary; Bethany, Braden, Bennie, and Boston; Houston; Jurnee, Tyler, Michael, and Conner; eleven great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Bayleigh, Boston, Karigan, and Kiryn; Leon and Creed; Madison and Makenna; Stetson and Carter; two aunts, Ella Mae Auldridge and Ozelle Sutton both of Amarillo; seven brothers and three sisters from his wife’s siblings; as well as numerous other family members and many friends.
The family will great friends at visitation from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Harmon County Funeral Home in Hollis.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at the Dryden Cemetery Chapel with Pastor Jeff Dill officiating.
Interment will follow services at the Gould Cemetery in Gould, Oklahoma with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Associations in memory of Leon Cole.
