Lenard Leroy Russell, age 73, of Granite, passed away late Saturday afternoon, February 28, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Russell was born on May 23, 1935, in Grayson County, Texas. Raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Russell of Mt. Peak, Texas, he was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He moved to Ft. Worth, Texas as a young man and was employed by Mrs. Baird"s Bread and later worked for the City of Ft. Worth for ten years. While living in Ft. Worth, he met the love of his life, Donna Faye Grady and they were united in marriage on August 22, 1972. When asked what he was most proud of and most grateful for, he would reply, "It was the day I met my beloved Faye". The two of them enjoyed going to the movies, eating out and cheering for their favorites at wrestling matches. In 1989, they moved to Granite to be closer to their family. Leroy enjoyed working in the yard, his garden and doing carpentry work, but his favorite pastime was watching wrestling with Faye and their beloved cat, Champ.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, mother and father-in-law, Cass and Audra Grady, he is survived by his wife, Faye Russell, of the home; one son, David Allan Russell and his children of Ft. Worth; four sisters-in-law, Winona Graham of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Mary Lou Cross and husband J.T. of Willow, Gaye Crump of Granite and Sue Everhart and husband Jim of Terre Haute, Indiana; three brothers-in-law, Carroll Grady of Snyder, Oklahoma, Joe Grady of Altus, Oklahoma and Eddie Grady and wife Sharon of Midwest City, Oklahoma along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services for Lenard Leroy Russell will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Granite with Rev. Jim Hilton officiating. Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
