Obituary for Lelia Cornelia Sullivan
Leila Cornelia (Holt) Sullivan 102, resident of Altus, Oklahoma and former resident of Mangum, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on November 3, 2020 at Harmon County Memorial Hospital in Hollis, Oklahoma. Cornelia was born on October 26, 1918 to her parents Stella (Pickering) and Arthur Holt. She is the oldest daughter of 10 children and grew up near Bird Mountain in Greer County. She attended Midway School in Greer County. She was a frontier woman who worked the land and survived the Dust Bowl in the 1930's. In 1937, Cornelia married Delmer Sullivan. She lived in Greer County for the majority of her life but moved to Salinas, California to care for her mother and then moving back to the Mangum area. She was the proud owner and operator of the first bait shop and station at Lake Lugert. She was also employed at the Duffer Motel and The Quartz Mountain Lodge but for most of her life she was a farm wife and homemaker. She was a longtime member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Mangum, Oklahoma. She was also a member of the Southwest Community Action Board for several years and volunteered her time at the Mangum Senior Citizens Center where she taught an exercise class for over thirty years. In 2015, she received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Volunteer Service Award. Cornelia's favorite pastime activities that she enjoyed doing were watching wheel of fortune, playing cards and dominos, being outside, traveling and most importantly spending time with her family. The most important thing her family is going to miss most about her is that she always had a positive upbeat attitude of gratitude. She never had a bad day during her 102 years on this earth and she always enriched the lives of the people around her.
