Obituary for LaVera Tefertiller
LaVera Tefertiller passed away January 23, 2010 in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born April 18, 1919 to Dr. M.E. and Myrtie Bales Robberson in Brady, Oklahoma. After growing up in Wynnewood, she graduated from the University of Oklahoma and taught school in Wynnewood and then Oklahoma City, where she met Dr. Charles L. Tefertiller. They married in 1947. A year later, they moved to Altus, Oklahoma, where she has resided for over 60 years.
Her giving nature in service to others and the community was an example to all. She was involved in Aldonian, MacDowell Club and PEO, holding many offices in each of these organizations over the years. As a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, she served on numerous committees and was the first woman to be chair of the Administrative Board. She sang in the choir, and was also involved in circle and UMW. She was lovingly called "Mother Methodist" by some of the members because of her overall dedication to the church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles L. Tefertiller; her parents, Dr. M.E. and Myrtie Robberson; brother, Dr. M.E. Robberson; and sister, Vivian Barrett.
She is survived by her son, Charles L. Tefertiller and his wife, Marlene, of Tulsa; daughter, Ann and her husband, Robert G. Stewart, of Edmond; grandchildren, C.J. Tefertiller of Dallas and Megan Ann Stewart of Edmond; and many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be 11 am Wednesday, January 27 at Restlawn Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma, with a memorial service at 1 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Altus.
