Laura Tankersley Thorp
Born April 6, 1900 in Gatesville, Texas, Mrs Thorp graduated from Miss Whitis' School in Austin Texas, as Salutatorian. She attended the University of Texas where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
In 1922, she married F. Blair Thorp in Quannah, Texas. They moved to Altus, Oklahoma and built their home in 1935 where she resided until 1991.
A talented pianist, she was active in music circles, a member of McDowell Club, and helped to promote the Community Concert Series in Altus. She played in the Ten Piano Concerts.
She Died October 25, 1997 in Baytown, Texas where she had lived the last few years.
Mrs Thorp is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Thomas of Spring, Teas and Mona Horne and her husband, W. E. Horne, Jr., of Norman, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, ten great -grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside rites will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Altus City Cemetery on Tuesday, October 28, 1997 with Rev. Randy Pratt officiating. Lowell Tims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Altus, Oklahoma.
