Obituary for Laura M. Denny
Laura Mavis Wootton Cain
Laura Mavis Wootton Cain, a former resident of Willow, Oklahoma, passed away on March 10, 2026, in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
Laura was born on August 2, 1944, in Kerrville, Texas, to George Wootton and Dorothy Wootton. She was raised in Willow, Oklahoma, where she grew up surrounded by family and community. Laura attended school in the area and graduated from Granite High School in 1962.
During her high school years, Laura met Rex Cain of Carter, Oklahoma. The two later married while Rex was serving in the United States Air Force, and their journey together began with a move to Oscoda, Michigan. During their marriage, they were blessed with three children: Joann, Marty, and Patricia.
After returning to Oklahoma, Laura settled in Altus, where she devoted herself to raising her family and caring for her home. As her children grew older, she began working in manufacturing and engineering-related fields. Laura worked for Western Electric, where she helped manufacture microchips and became known for her strong work ethic and dedication.
In 1971, Laura began working for CMI, where she was part of the engineering department helping design and build road construction equipment. Her attention to detail and mechanical aptitude made her a valued member of the team. Demonstrating her determination to keep learning and growing, Laura later attended college in the early 1990s in Carrollton, Texas, where she studied mechanical engineering.
Laura later moved to Denton, Texas, before returning home to Willow, Oklahoma, in 1994 to care for her grandmother, Laura Ferguson. While living in Willow, she purchased and operated the Willow Café for several years. Her café quickly became a beloved place in the community, known for its incredible home-cooked meals that made everyone feel as though they were dining at their grandmother's table. After retiring from the café, Laura once again devoted herself to family, lovingly caring for her mother, Dorothy Wootton.
In the last ten years of her life, Laura lived in Oklahoma City so she could be close to her children and grandchildren, who meant the world to her.
Laura was a deeply spiritual woman who found joy in the simple things in life. She enjoyed playing bingo, visiting the casino, woodworking, gardening, and farming. She had a passion for collecting antiques, glassware, jewelry, and magazines, and she took great pride in growing her own vegetables and maintaining her garden.
Laura also loved to cook and was well known for the meals she prepared for family and friends. Her fried potatoes, chocolate pies, and especially her famous carrot cakes were favorites at family gatherings. More than anything, she treasured time spent with loved ones. Those who knew her remember her as hardworking, kind, and generous, with a contagious laugh and a heart that cared deeply for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Wootton; her sister, Modene Kinniken; her granddaughter, Lauren Williams; her great-granddaughter, Liana Lynn; and the father of her children, Rex Cain.
Laura leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Joann Miller and Chuck, Trish Williams and Joel, Marty Cain and Maricel; her brother GH Wootton and wife, Judy.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Miranda, Josh, Tanner, Colby, Braden, Natori, Maddie, Ella, Mercedes, Monica, Breanna, Juliet, Cole, Fabian, Marianna, Matilde, Aracely, Nayeli, Cristal, Zoe, Chance, Lyndsey, and Jake.
