Kenneth Paul Slaton, age 80, of Mangum, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 13, 2016, at OU Medical Center, in Oklahoma City.
Mr. Slaton was born, in Mangum, on May 20, 1936, to William Samuel and Ida Vera (Barker) Slaton. A 1954 graduate of Mangum High, Kenneth married Gayle Ann Trumbo on May 11, 1956. Kenneth began working for Phillip 66 in the seismograph division and the family lived in several locations due to Kenneth"s job. In 1966, the family moved back to Mangum and Kenneth began working for ARMCO Steel. In 1981, Kenneth and his two sons began Slaton Construction, where he continued until his death. A kind and gentle man, Kenneth loved spending time with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Slaton, he is survived by his two sons, David Slaton and wife Connie, of Mangum and Steven Slaton and wife Jennifer, of Mangum; seven grandchildren, Brittany Forester and husband Steve of Martha, Rachael Paxton of Mangum, Johnna Phelps of Altus, Emily Edwards and husband Jeff of Hydro, Caley Slaton of Mangum, Kenneth Slaton and wife Ashley of Mangum and Andy Slaton and wife Megan of Mangum; ten great grandchildren, Hunter, Brooklyn, Madyson, Bryce, Landry, Lincoln, Kelli, Sam, Collin and Brennan; the mother of his children, Gayle Phillips and husband Phil of Mangum, one brother-in-law, Larry Trumbo of Blanchard; two nieces, Sandra Hiltz and husband Hal, Janet Slaton; one nephew, Robert Slaton along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Kenneth Slaton will be at 2 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2016, at the first Baptist Church, in Mangum, with Pastor Kris Rambler officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 until 7 p.m.
