Obituary for Kenneth Duane Houck
Kenneth Duane Houck, father and fun-loving friend, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 20, 2004. Duane was born on September 23, 1924 to Austin and Meda Houck. He was a caring and devoted son to his parents, a loving father and granddad, and a lifelong friend to his brother Merlyn.
After graduating from Eastview High School he enrolled at Mangum Junior College. He served as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy during World war II and was honorably discharged in 1946.
His farming career began in 1946 when he acquired the homestead of his grandfather, W.P. Houck. After 48 years of farming he retired in 1994. The homestead remains in the family.
He worked at Tim's Funeral Home. He provided 28 years of loyal service for Altus Production Credit Association before retiring.
Duane was a member of the Altus Chamber of Commerce and served for 20 years as superintendent of the Altus Livestock Show. Duane was a 50-year member of the Kiwanis Club with 30 years perfect attendance.
In 1952, Duane moved his church membership to the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ in Altus where he was a loyal and faithful member.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Meda Houck; his beloved and cherished wife, Wanda; his stepson Chad Jones and his brother, Merlyn Houck.
Duane has left behind his children, Brenda Price and husband John of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Joel Houck of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Doug Jones and wife Jana of edmond, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law, Mary McCue and husband John of Overland Park, Kansas; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Duane was a trusted and faithful friend, an avid golfer, and a hard worker who loved shopping for a good deal. He was a man of great character and unfailing faith and integrity who loved his church family.
Funeral Services for Duane Houck will be Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 2004 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Duane will be missed and always remembered with loving affection by all.
