McMINN

Julius Herron "Junior" McMinn, Jr., age 83, of Altus, passed away early Monday morning, March 10, 2014, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. McMinn was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on September 15, 1930, to Julius Herron McMinn, Sr. and Betty Lou (Long) McMinn. Moving to Cullman, Alabama at age 4, he graduated from Cullman High School in 1949, and joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for the next four years. His assignments included Germany, the Azores and Carswell AFB, in Ft. Worth, Texas. On August 6, 1952, he married the love of his life, Bobbie Caroline Wood and they spent the next sixty-one wonderful years together before his death. Moving to Altus in 1953, as the Mobil Oil distributor, Junior bought the Mayflower Arrow Van Lines Moving business in 1959 and began fifty-one year career that took he and the family to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Smoke Rise, Alabama and back to Altus owning several moving and storage businesses before retiring in 2010. A hard worker all of his life, Junior enjoyed traveling and taking care of his faithful dogs, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing 84 with his dear friends. A longtime deacon of the First Baptist Church, in Altus, Junior was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Preceded in death by his parents and one son, Danny McMinn, in 1972, he is survived by his wife Bobbie, of the home; two children, Robbie Riley and husband Richard of Altus and Roy McMinn of Altus; seven grandchildren, Courtney Duncan and husband Walt of Altus, Katie Dowden and husband Nathan of Altus, Cody Riley and wife Kodie of Altus, Beau McMinn of New Orleans, Louisiana, Kellie Shelton and husband Chad of Gardendale, Alabama, Brett McMinn of Warrior Alabama and Abby McMinn of Warrior, Alabama; four great grandchildren, Brenna Duncan, Canyon Dowden, Jayse Dowden and Lily Claire Shelton along with many other relatives and friends.

Junior will be buried, next to his son, Danny, in a private, family interment before the services on Friday. He will lie in state at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday of this week from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore and Pastor Doug Altom officiating.
