Julian Olivarez, age 87, of Altus, passed away early Sunday morning, October 2, 2016, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Julian was born in Imus, Cavite, Philippines on February 16, 1929, to his parents Antonio Capili Olivarez and Felicidad Camarace (Jarin) Olivarez. Julian joined the United States Navy in 1956, served in various assignments to include two tours in Vietnam, and retired after a twenty-year career. On April 27, 1960, he married the love of his life Maria "Mary" Tolentino Fernando in Quezon City, Philippines, and they enjoyed over 56 years of marriage together. As a military couple, they lived in many places all over the world, and after Julian retired from the Navy, they moved back to the Philippines and later made their home in Altus to be closer to family. Julian was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Chapel at Altus Air Force Base, and he always treasured time spent with his family.
Julian was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Vitaliano Olivarez; two sisters, Victoria Gelle; and Maria Guemo. He is survived by his wife Mary Olivarez of the home; his daughter, Edna Dodson and husband Carl of Altus; two sons, Glen Olivarez of Altus; and Alex Olivarez and wife Angela of the Philippines; six grandchildren, Rachel Khmarsky and her husband Vlad, Michael and James Studdard, Margeaux and Martina Olivarez, and Mark Dodson; three brothers, Esmeraldo Olivarez of the Philippines; Lolito Olivarez and wife Rosing of the Philippines; and Edgardo Olivarez and wife Pilar of California; a sister-in-law, Martha Olivarez; as well as nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
The family will receive friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, October 14, 2016, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus.
